I Was Following

This image of children running through a snowy wood is a hand burnished woodcut print with chine collé (the technique of adding collage elements during the printing process). I designed and carved the wooden blocks and I hand print each colour individually to create the image. The print is produced with oil based printmaking inks in shades of blue grey on fine Japanese Hosho paper. The children's red scarves are cut and torn from handmade mulberry paper. For the distant children these are tiny delicate scraps of just a few fibres.

The handmade nature of this process means each print is a unique piece with small variations in ink transfer and in the collage effect of the scarves. The print you receive may not be identical to the one shown.

The title, edition number and artist's signature are written in pencil under the image.
