This Japanese watercolour woodblock print shows Lindisfarne Castle rising in the distance. I made these prints in 2014 but then put them away in a drawer and forgot about them. I have just rediscovered them during a stock take.
Moku hanga printmaking is made with watercolours and a rice paste to bind the pigment to the paper. Each layer of shading is brushed onto the wooden blocks by hand and then the image is burnished onto the paper using a bamboo baren. The nature of this slow and labour intensive method means that each print is unique; you will receive number one in the edition which is the one shown here.
The print is supplied unmounted and unframed. The title, edition number, artist's signature and date are written in pencil under the image.
