a handtinted drypoint etching based on a sketch by Hans Holbein
Number 2 of a limited edition of 40
Image size 14 x 20.5 cm (approx 5.5" x 8") Paper size approx 19 x 28 cm
A hand tinted drypoint original print, based on a drawing by Hans Holbein which is commonly believed to be of Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII of England and mother of Queen Elizabeth I.
This is a drypoint print, produced from an acetate plate which I have hand etched. For each print, the ink is carefully wiped to produce tones and shading. After printing, I have added delicate tints of watercolour paint. A maximum of forty prints will be produced with this plate. Different colours of ink may be used and of course the hand painting will vary each time - therefore every print will be a unique monoprint.
This print is number two of forty and has been printed with umber ink. It is the print shown in the first two images.
The print is produced with oil based printmaking ink and artist quality watercolour paint on 140lb Bockingford watercolour paper. The print number, title, artist signature and date are written under the print in pencil.
