Absolute Beginners - workshopThis practical and jargon busting session will dispel the mystery of watercolour painting and give you confidence to explore this wonderful medium. All the questions you've wanted to ask will be answered. What is the difference between pans and tubes? You will learn about colour mixing, additional materials
and the choice of papers and effects available to you. Finally we
will all work together in a 'paint along' session, following the steps of
a demonstration so you will end the day with a painting you can take home
with pride. |

Colour and Shadows - workshopWhile designed as a follow on from the Absolute Beginners workshop, this class will also be invaluable to those with more experience who would like a refresher. Perhaps you have been painting for a while but you feel you missed out on some basics when you were starting? Would you like to be more confident in your colour mixing and depiction of shadows? Then this is the workshop for you. We will look at different ways of mixing colour with particular emphasis on the technique of glazing - building up layers of translucent colour which produces a clearer result than mixing on the palette. We will also examine how to create convincing shadows which complement and accent our paintings rather than dominating or distracting.

Time for Tea (still life) - Art at the CaféThis workshop is all about depicting decorated china, using as our subjects some of the lovely vintage crockery at our host venue. We will look at how we tackle reflections and changes in colour and how we render depth and form. We will also look at the drawing skills needed for dealing with round cups, saucers and plates. Class members will be invited to choose their own subject from the café's collection of vintage and retro cups and saucers. The skills you acquire will then enable you confidently to incorporate china in future still life paintings.
